Counterfeit One Touch Blood Glucose Test Strips

FDA Recall Alert

(December and October2006  counterfeitOne Touch Blood Glucose Test Strips alert continues into 2007).  The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has alerted the public of counterfeit blood glucose teststrips being sold in United States. These strips are for use with variousLifeScan blood glucose monitors including One Touch.The warnings were first issued in October of 2006 but again in December 2066 asnew batches of counterfeit strips have emerged.  These glucose test strips can givedramatically erroneous readings that could result in severe hypo orhyperglycemia.

Do You HaveCounterfeit Strips?

Counterfeit test strips may have many of the same attributes aslegitimate strips. Look specifically for lot numbers. The following items belowmay also help you spot counterfeit blood glucose test strips for One Touchmeters. Please contact 1-866-621-4855) to help determine if your strips are counterfeit. Lifescan did not produce or distribute these strips butwishes to help people identify the poor quality strips for the sake of safety.

Counterfeit One TouchBasic/Profile Test Strips

·        Lot Numbers 272894A, 2619932, or 2606340 appear on the outer packageand on the vial inside.

·        The outer package contains English, Greek and Portuguese andpossibly other languages.

·        The outer package reads 50-Count One Touch (Basic/Profile)TestStrip packages

·        The bottom of the outer package has no NDC number.

Counterfeit One TouchBasic/Profile Test Strips

·        Lot Numbers 2615211 or 227078A appear on the outer package and onthe vial inside.

·        The outer package is written in English.

·        The outer carton reads as 50-Count One Touch (Basic/Profile) TestStrip packages.

·        A picture of a hand appears on the test strip displayed on theouter package.

·        The inside vial  is labeledas "plasma calibrated"

·        The bottom of the outer package has no NDC number.

Counterfeit One TouchUltra Test Strips

·        Lot numbers 2691191 or2691261 appear on the outer package and on the vial inside.

·        The outer package and inside vial are written in English andFrench (both).

·        The outer package reads 50-Count One Touch Ultra Test Strippackages.

·        The bottom of the outer package has no NDC number.

If you havecounterfeit test strips:

§        Stop using them.

§        Replace them immediately with authentic strips.

§        Contact your physician if your new results are out of target.

§        Contact the store you purchased them from and ask for refund.(These blood glucose test strips were distributed nationwide to variouspharmacies and stores).

§        Haveyour meter checked against the lab using the new strips (as should be done atleast annually regardless).

§        Report any adverse reactions or quality problems to the FDA MedWatch Program  1-800-FDA-1088 or www.fda.gov/medwatch.(eg. You see your “real”strips give dramatically different results than the “counterfeit” ones”)/
