Glucose Meter Recall and Notifications

Glucose meter recalls and test strip issues are critical information. You'd hate to make diabetes decisions based on inaccurate blood sugars. Blood sugar monitors are only machines and glucose test strips are only materials. They are both subject to errors and malfunctions.

I'll try to keep you updated with news as I receive it in my office (I'm a diabetes educator). However, I rely on notifications directly from manufacturers and this itself can be limited. If you have concerns about specific meters, please call the 1-800-number often on the back of the meter or visit the company's website. Also, you may try navigating through the www.fda.gov site.

Also note: There are 14 issues related to day-to-day accuracy issues. Eg. nothing to do with recalls. Check these blood sugar monitor accuracy issues out.
