Innovative product for needle phobics with diabetes

For those with diabetes and injection anxiety, who perhaps consider themselves needle phobics, Novonordisk sells an insulin pen needle that might help. You never see the needle! It's call the Autocover.

How does this product reduce injection anxiety?

Just like it's name, the Autocover covers the needle so you don't see it. Not seeing this part of the injection is one of the biggest helps for those with fear of needles. The cover automatically slides up when the needle is pressed into the skin. When pulling the insulin pen back out, the cover automatically slides down so you see nothing. These steps are illustrated in the picture below:

1. Cover hides everything (you'd have to have X-ray vision to what's really going on. 2. Press insulin pen down into skin and the cover automatically slides upwards to allow injection to occur. 3. Pull insulin pen out and the cover automatically slides down again...so you don't see the needle at all!

The Autocover will fit all insulin pens on the market at this time (Jan 2009). For more information on this innovative product, see Novonordisk. http://www.novonordisk.com/diabetes/public/needles/novofine_autocover/benefits/needle_puncture.asp

Since a number of people with needle phobia can desensitize themselves better if they don't see it, products like this may certainly help in the management of diabetes.

Autocover to help fear of needles, injection anxiety or needle phobics.
