Retractable Syringe Makes Injections Safer!

The retractable syringe is an innovative solution to avoiding accidental needle pokes after an injection. They allow the user to pull the needle up into the body of the syringe after using. No sharp stays outside the needle. They should still be deposited in a proper sharps container for ultimate safety though.

Why use these?

These syringes are mostly of use to health care practitioners. However, if you have young children in the home, or your child has diabetes, then you may be seeking safe options. This may be one of them.

These retractable needles may also be handy for travel. As an educator with diabetes I always found that safety storing my sharps when traveling was a bit of a hassle. Although lids go back on needles, I cringe thinking of how airport security has searched my carry-on luggage at times and just prayed they didn't get an accidental poke. (Yep. Ticking off airport security would help make my trip enjoyable. NOT!) I now have a free mini-sharps container to take with me. But in the past, these innovative devices might have been an option I'd have sought out.

Who makes retractable syringes?

There are different brands available. There is the Smart Syringe (see www.smartsyringe.com and the Invirosnap Safety Syringes (see http://www.inviromedical.com/PRODUCTS/SNAPSafetySyringeOverview/tabid/140/Default.aspx). There may be others, so please, if this is a product you feel you'd benefit from having, please search the net so you have all your choices. Please ask your pharmacist for more information about how to order these if you're interested. Leaving Retractable Syringe to go Home: How to Control Blood Sugars
