Types of Insulin Pump

The types of insulin pumps available grows year after year. The manufacturer is the most reliable source of  information regarding each type of insulin pump. You'll find links to them as well as the names of their pumps below. Your local diabetes education center may also  have the names of local pump representatives. If you're not currently on insulin pump therapy please discuss with your diabetes team prior to making a purchase. You can learn more about insulin pumps helping you miss meals, sleep in etc here.  And more about insulin pumps helping you manage pizza, Chinese food etc here.

Before you decide on a type of insulin pump :

Carefully consider the reasons you've chosen that particular brand of insulin pump. Don't be swayed by the keenest ever "bell and whistle".  Make sure it meets your needs.  And know its limitations.  For example, I personally wouldn't be interested in a pump that only had a 1.5 ml reservoir - regardless of its "bells" - since I'd be changing  the reservoir more than I care to.

If the options in pumps confuse you or you want to be clear on what the options mean, check here under the discussion on best insulin pumps. Knowing the options and how they might benefit you (or not benefit you) can help you when deciding which pump to buy.  FYI:   You will likely need a physician's  prescription to purchase any and all types of insulin pumps.
