Types of Insulin Pump

The types of insulin pumps available grows year after year and so do all the "bells and whistles" claiming to make a brand "the best insulin pump". You'll find links to pump manufacturers below. Your local diabetes education center may also  have the names of local pump representatives. If you're not currently on insulin pump therapy please discuss with your diabetes team prior to making a purchase. You can learn more about insulinpumps helping you miss meals, sleep in etc here.  And more aboutinsulin pumps helping you manage pizza, Chinese food etc here.

Before you decide on a type of insulin pump:

Carefully consider the reasons you've chosenthat particular brand of insulin pump. Don't be swayed by the keenest ever"bells and whistle".  Make sure it meets your needs.  And know its limitations.  For example, I personally wouldn't be interested ina pump that only had a 1.5 ml reservoir - regardless of its "bells" -since I'd be changing the reservoir more than I care to. Others may be on smaller insulin doses or simply not mind.

If the options in pumps confuse you or you want to be clear on what the optionsmean, check here under the discussion on best insulin pumps. Knowingthe options and how they might benefit you (or not benefit you) can help youwhen deciding which pump to buy.  FYI:  You will likely need a physician's  prescription to purchase any andall types of insulin pumps. Pump therapy should not be started without the input of your physician.
